About

Dome Springs Campground was a dispersed camping area situated in the remote East Dry Canyon region of Los Padres National Forest, within the Chumash Wilderness in Ventura County. The area was used by the U.S. Army for artillery training exercises in the 1940s, and subsequent investigations revealed the presence of unexploded ordnance and munitions debris throughout the canyon. Due to significant public safety concerns, the U.S. Forest Service has permanently closed the campground and the entire East Dry Canyon corridor under Forest Order 5-07-57-23-03. The closure encompasses Dome Springs Campground, Dome Springs Road (8N40), and all associated OHV trails including 22W10, 22W11, and 22W13. All activities including camping, hiking, hunting, and OHV use are strictly prohibited in this area. The campground previously offered primitive dispersed camping with no facilities, fees, water, or restrooms. Given the hazardous conditions and permanent closure status, the area is not expected to reopen for public use.
