About
Tucked away high atop the Cerro Noroeste, Campo Alto Campground offers solitude and serenity in a pleasant grove of Jeffrey pines at 8,250 feet elevation. The spacious campsites accommodate modest-sized RVs and tent campers, with each site featuring a picnic table and fire ring. The pine-scented air and end-of-the-road privacy make this a destination for pristine camping enthusiasts seeking to escape the hurried life. The campground serves as a gateway to the Chumash Wilderness via the Vincent Tumameit Trailhead. From this elevated perch, campers enjoy unsurpassed scenic vistas including the Carrizo Plain to the north, Cuyama Valley, Quatal and Apache Canyons to the west, the San Joaquin Valley to the east, and Lockwood Valley and Sespe ranges to the south. The remote location rewards those who make the journey with exceptional stargazing and mountain views. Campers must be completely self-sustainable, as no potable water or electricity is available on-site. The facility operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out basis with no dump station. Access is via Forest Road 9N27, approximately 6 miles from the Mil Potrero Ranger Station. The nearest services are 15 miles away in Pine Mountain Club or 25 miles in Frazier Park.
