About

Coppermine Shelter is a historic three-sided backcountry shelter in the White Mountain National Forest, situated at the end of the 2.5-mile Coppermine Trail near scenic Bridal Veil Falls. The easy-to-moderate trail parallels Coppermine Brook through the forest before reaching this primitive shelter, which accommodates approximately 6 people. This is a rustic backcountry facility with no amenities. There is no privy, no designated tent sites, and no potable water on site. Campers must filter or treat water from nearby water sources. The shelter is free to use with no reservations required. Visitors should practice Leave No Trace principles and bring a bear-proof canister for proper food storage. The shelter is located approximately 2.5 miles from NH Route 116 near Franconia. White Mountain National Forest regulations prohibit camping within 1/4 mile of backcountry facilities like shelters, so overnight users should stay at the shelter itself rather than setting up tents nearby.
