Beaver Brook Shelter
Open year-round, first-come, first-served with no fee. No reservations. Water source (stream via side trail) may be unreliable; bring sufficient water or be prepared to treat stream water.
About
Beaver Brook Shelter sits at 3,750 feet elevation on the northern flank of Asquam Ridge, which extends eastward from Mount Moosilauke in New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest. This Appalachian Trail shelter provides a sweeping panoramic view of the White Mountains to the north and serves as a popular overnight stop for thru-hikers and section hikers. The shelter accommodates approximately 8 people and includes 3 overflow tent sites for additional capacity. A composting privy is available. Water can be obtained from a small stream accessed via a short side trail, though this source may be unreliable during dry periods. Campers should plan to treat all water and consider carrying sufficient supply. Access to the shelter requires a steep 1.5-mile hike on the Beaver Brook Trail from NH Route 112 in Kinsman Notch. This trail section is known for its challenging grade and beautiful cascading waterfalls along Beaver Brook. The shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fee required.
Directions
From NH Route 112 in Kinsman Notch, locate the Beaver Brook Trailhead. Hike south on the Beaver Brook Trail (Appalachian Trail) for 1.5 steep miles to reach the shelter.
