About

Chilcoot Campground is one of five campgrounds in the Frenchman Lake Recreation Area of Northeastern California's Plumas National Forest. Located at 5,100 feet elevation alongside Last Chance Creek, the campground offers a more secluded experience than the lakeside options while still providing easy access to Frenchman Lake's water-based recreation. The campground features 40 single-family sites with paved roads and parking pads, flush toilets, potable water, and fire rings with grills at each site. Fifteen sites are available for reservation during peak season, with the remaining 25 available first-come, first-served. Bear-resistant food storage containers are provided, and firewood is available for purchase. The surrounding area sits at the interface of desert and mountain climates, where pine forest meets desert scrub at the southern end of the Little Last Chance Scenic Area. Water sports, fishing, hiking, and exploring forest roads are all readily accessible. Dispersed camping is not permitted within the recreation area.
