Be aware there is a failing culvert on Oakwood Bottoms Road FSR # 786. The culvert is approximately 0.6 miles off of Route 3, just before the railroad tracks.

Oakwood Bottoms Waterfowl Hunting 2025-2026

Flooding of Oakwood Bottom Units is underway. Due to storm damage to power lines, the units in the southern portion of Oakwood Bottoms will not be filled this year. To offset this loss of floodable units, we plan to flood as many of the northern units as possible.

McClure Road Closed

McClure Road (Forest Service Road 772) is closed at the low-water crossing approximately 0.1 mile past the Forest Service boundary (0.8 mile from Little Kinkaid Road).  We apologize for the inconvenience, but the road will remain closed to all vehicular traffic until a culvert can be replace

The walking path at Lincoln Memorial Day-use site has been affected by heavy rainfall, which has caused soil erosion and subsidence at the spillway of the Lincoln Memorial pond.

About

Camp Cadiz Campground occupies the site of an old Civilian Conservation Corps work camp in Shawnee National Forest. Somewhat off the beaten path, this campground is typically quiet and rarely fills up, with the exception of turkey and deer hunting seasons. All campsites are level and equipped with fire rings with grills and picnic tables. The campground welcomes equestrian campers and serves as an excellent base for trail users. From the trailhead just north of the campground along Forest Road 598, visitors can access both the River-to-River Trail and the Beaver Trail. Overnight parking is permitted at the trailhead or along the side of Forest Road 598. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Sites accommodate a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles, with a 14-day maximum stay. Payment is cash or check only at $10 per night. Restrooms and potable water are available on-site, and pets are allowed on leash.

Directions

From Harrisburg, Illinois: Take Hwy 13 east 14 miles to Hwy 1. Take Hwy 1 south 15 miles, to Camp Cadiz Rd. Turn west on Camp Cadiz Rd and go 2 miles to the campground entrance. From Evansville, Indiana: Take Hwy 62 west to Illinois Hwy 141 and continue west to Hwy 1. Take Hwy 1 south 30 miles to Camp Cadiz Rd. Turn west on and go 2 miles to the campground entrance.
