About

Breckenridge Campground is the only developed campground on Breckenridge Mountain in Sequoia National Forest's Kern River Ranger District. Situated at 6,600 feet elevation, this primitive campground offers a rustic experience for campers, hunters, and explorers seeking a remote mountain setting. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables and vault toilets, but campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The campground is accessed via Breckenridge Road from Bakersfield, approximately 30 miles east on County Road 218/Forest Road 28S06. While Breckenridge Road is paved across the mountain, it is narrow in most areas, and the spur road to the campground is dirt. The campground is unsuitable for trailers due to access road conditions and site design. The area offers opportunities for day hiking and hunting, with several trails passing through the Breckenridge area including Mill Creek Trail and Remington Ridge Trail. The campground operates seasonally and requires a campfire permit for all fires, barbeques, and camp stoves, available at the ranger station or online at readyforwildfire.org.

Directions

From Bakersfield, go 30 miles east on Breckenridge Road (County Road 218/Forest Road 28S06). Breckenridge Road is paved across Breckenridge Mountain but narrow in most areas. The spur road to the campground is dirt.
