Bear Trap Campground is a primitive Forest Service campground situated in the Magdalena Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in Socorro County, New Mexico. Located approximately 25 miles southwest of the town of Magdalena via US 60 and Forest Road 549, the campground provides a remote, undeveloped camping experience. The campground features 4 camping units in a rugged desert mountain setting. This is a very basic facility with no developed water or restroom facilities available. Campers should be fully self-sufficient and prepared to pack out all trash. The campground is currently closed under Forest Service closure order 03-03-03-26-01 through December 31, 2026 to protect public health and safety from post-Bear Trap Fire flooding. Flash flooding remains a potential threat in this area following the fire.
