About
Wolf Hollow Campground sits at the edge of the Gila Wilderness, providing a remote basecamp for hiking, horseback riding, and solitude in southwestern New Mexico's high country. The campground is approximately 90 miles from Truth or Consequences and requires navigating Forest Road 150, where high-clearance and 4WD vehicles are recommended. The campground serves as the trailhead for Wolf Hollow Trail #773, a 4.6-mile route that ascends Wolf Hollow Canyon to the Gila Wilderness boundary and continues to Black Mountain summit and the historic Black Mountain Lookout. At the summit, the trail intersects with Sam Martin Trail #23, Jordan Canyon Trail #20, and CCC Trail #772, opening up extended backcountry options. Facilities are basic but functional: vault toilet, picnic tables at each site, and fire rings. A steel equestrian corral accommodates pack animals, though stock animals are not permitted in the immediate campground area. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground is free and operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit.
Directions
