Atkisson Group Camp
Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates as a group camp from May through September. During winter, the site functions as a Sno-Park for Nordic skiing and snowmobiling.
About
Located in the Mount Adams Ranger District of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Atkisson Group Camp provides a unique dual-season recreation opportunity. During summer months, the campground serves groups of up to 50 people with a large paved area featuring 99 feet of driveway space, making it particularly accommodating for RVs. A covered picnic building serves as a central gathering area, and the site includes vault toilets, fire ring, and picnic tables. The surrounding flat, forested terrain offers excellent opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, and the area is known for huckleberry and mushroom picking. When winter arrives, Atkisson transforms into a Sno-Park, with the covered picnic shelter serving as a warming hut equipped with a large wood-burning stove. The area provides access to 16 kilometers of marked ski and snowshoe trails and 154 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. The campground's location near Mt. Adams, Washington's second-tallest mountain at 12,276 feet, provides stunning views and access to diverse habitats ranging from old-growth forests to high-elevation meadows. The nearby town of Trout Lake offers additional amenities including restaurants and shopping. Campers must bring their own drinking water and practice bear-safe food storage.
