The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued the following... WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke. WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Grand, Rio Blanco, Eagle, Summit, Garfield, Pitkin, Mesa, Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, Montezuma, La Plata, Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, Mineral, Archuleta, Jackson, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Elbert, Lake, Park, Teller, El Paso, Chaffee, Fremont, Pueblo, Custer, Huerfano, Rio Grande, Alamosa, Costilla and Conejos Counties. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday August 05 to 900 AM Thursday August 06 IMPACTS...Areas of moderate to heavy smoke, from in-state and out- of-state wildfires, will be possible across the advisory area through at least Thursday morning. HEALTH INFORMATION...If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

PLEASE NOTE that the Horse Sites are located before reaching the campground on the opposite side of the road off FSR 561. The Horse Sites are in a separate area.

Wheeled Vehicles in Wilderness

This order describes the prohibition of wheeled vehicles in all National Forest Wilderness Areas of the Rocky Mountain Region and any exceptions thereof.

About

Transfer Campground sits at 8,500 feet elevation in a level aspen grove within the San Juan National Forest, approximately 11 miles north of Mancos, Colorado. The campground features 12 individual campsites (5 reservable), one reservable group site, and 4 horse sites located separately across Forest Road 561 with adjacent corrals. All sites and restrooms are barrier-free and most accommodate RVs up to 45 feet. Recreational opportunities center on motorized and non-motorized trail access. The Aspen Loop Trail for ATVs and motorbikes is just half a mile north. Nearby hiking options include Big Al Interpretive Trail, Rim Trail, Box Canyon Trail, Chicken Creek Trail, Morrison Trail, Gold Run Trail, and West Mancos Trail. Jackson Gulch Reservoir lies six miles south for fishing. Amenities include potable water, vault toilets, trash service, picnic tables, and fire grates at each site. The group site features five double picnic tables, a large serving table, and cooking grills. Livestock is prohibited in the main campground but accommodated at the horse sites across the road.

Directions

From Mancos, CO: Travel 1/4 mile north on Highway 184, then turn right on West Mancos Road (Forest Road 561). Travel 10.5 miles to the campground. Most of the road is unpaved but has a good gravel surface.
