About

Spring Creek Campground is located at the interface between mountains and high desert, where the Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges meet. At 5,800 feet elevation, the campground provides direct access to Frenchman Lake's clear waters for swimming, boating, water skiing, and jet skiing. The surrounding landscape features ancient lava flows eroded by creeks, creating interesting terrain for exploration. The campground has 35 sites, with 16 available for reservation through Recreation.gov and the remainder first-come, first-served. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Amenities include vault toilets and drinking water during peak season. Bear-resistant lockers have been installed, and firewood bundles are available from the camp host. Nearby attractions include Little Last Chance Canyon Scenic Area and Sierra Valley, the largest valley in the Sierra Nevada. The towns of Chilcoot and Loyalton offer stores and services.

From Reno, NV take Highway 395 north 24 miles to Highway 70. Take Highway 70 west to Chilcoot, CA. Head north on County Road 284 for seven miles to Frenchman Lake Dam. Cross the dam and proceed two miles to the campground.
