Located 6 miles south of Gorham, New Hampshire, at the base of 6,288-ft. Mount Washington, Barnes Field Campground provides a scenic and private space for organizations, families and groups to gather in the White Mountain National Forest. This historic campground is situated in a mixed hardwood, spruce and pine forest near the Peabody River and Culhane Brook. During the peak season from mid-May to mid-October, Barnes Field operates as a group campground with reservations available through Recreation.gov. The facility can accommodate groups of 1-50 people with tiered pricing based on group size. In the off-season from October through May, it transforms into one of the few campgrounds in the area that remains open for winter camping, operating on a first-come, first-served self-service basis at $18 per vehicle per day. The campground serves as a hub for hiking into the Presidential and Carter-Moriah Ranges. The Daniel Webster Scout Trail, which departs from the adjacent Dolly Copp Campground, provides access to the Great Gulf Wilderness on the northeast side of Mount Washington. Anglers can fish for brook trout in the nearby creek and river. Winter brings opportunities for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice climbing. The surrounding White Mountain National Forest is home to moose, white-tailed deer, black bears, and nearly 200 species of birds.

Directions

From Gorham, New Hampshire: Take Highway 16 south for approximately 6.5 miles to Dolly Copp Road. Turn right and travel approximately 0.75 miles to the campground. From North Conway, New Hampshire: Take Highway 302 to Glen, turn right onto State Route 16 north and follow for about 22 miles, then turn left onto Dolly Copp Road and travel approximately 0.75 miles to the campground.
