* Temperatures this Holiday weekend may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 50s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and in the mid 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! * Winds will be breezy this afternoon with some gusts up to 25 mph across parts of the area. If boating on large bodies of water, these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturning your boat, canoe, or kayak due to increased wave heights.

About

The Dolly Copp Picnic Pavilion is a historic day-use facility nestled along the pristine Peabody River in New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 and carefully reconstructed in 1996 using many original timbers, the large stone pavilion offers a scenic setting for group gatherings such as family reunions, wedding receptions, and special events. The pavilion features eight accessible picnic tables, a large stone fireplace with a flagstone floor, two charcoal grills, flush toilets, handwash sinks, and potable water. A large open field in front of the pavilion provides space for games and socializing. Note that no electricity is available, and amplified music or public address systems are prohibited. The facility is located on NH Route 16, approximately five miles south of Gorham and 13 miles north of Jackson. Nearby attractions include the Mount Washington Auto Road, Wildcat Ski Area, the Appalachian Mountain Club's Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, Great Gulf Wilderness, and Glen Ellis Falls. The Dolly Copp Campground with over 170 campsites is located across the river for those seeking overnight accommodations.
