Hot and smoky weather conditions will result in ozone concentrations reaching the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category Monday afternoon and evening, with Unhealthy levels of ozone possible in northern and western parts of the Denver metro area. Additionally, particle pollution is elevated due to wildfire smoke. Ozone could reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category again Tuesday afternoon and evening. About
Osprey Campground offers a rustic tent camping experience along the South Platte River in Pike National Forest's South Platte Ranger District. Located 10 miles north of Deckers at 6,200 feet elevation, the campground features 13 closely-spaced walk-in sites accessed from a shared dirt parking lot. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground operates year-round, though full services run Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. During peak season, portable toilets are available and firewood can be purchased. No potable water exists on-site, requiring campers to pack in all drinking water. The campground has no host; the nearest host is stationed at Lone Rock Campground. The South Platte River provides fishing opportunities directly adjacent to the campground. Sites accommodate a maximum of 8 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles, with a 14-night consecutive stay limit. Check-in is at 2 p.m. and checkout at noon, with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Directions
From Denver: Take US Highway 285 to Pine Junction. Turn south on Jefferson County Road 126 and drive approximately 25 miles to Douglas County 67 at Deckers. Campground is 10 miles north of Deckers on the left. From Sedalia: Take US Highway 67 south to Sprucewood, continue on 67 South to the South Platte River, then drive 4 miles north to Osprey Campground on the left.
