About

Hastings Campground is located on Route 113 near the shore of Evans Brook in western Maine, situated in a rustic and remote part of White Mountain National Forest. Built on the site of a historic logging camp from the late 1800s, the campground sits in a young mixed hardwood forest at the base of Mt. Hastings, offering ample open areas and well-separated campsites around a single loop. The campground provides access to diverse hiking opportunities, including a short 2-mile family-friendly trail and a more rigorous 9-mile trail on Mt. Hastings. Fishing is available in nearby Evans Brook and the Wild River, with brook trout being a popular catch. The famous Appalachian Trail is approximately a half-hour drive away. The surrounding White Mountain National Forest encompasses nearly 800,000 acres of pristine forests, clear mountain streams, and the tallest peaks in the Northeast, including Mount Washington in the nearby Presidential Range. Wildlife is abundant in the area, with frequent sightings of moose, white-tailed deer, and black bear. Almost 200 species of birds inhabit the White Mountains, including the rare Bicknell's Thrush. The region also hosts multiple alpine and Nordic ski areas, providing year-round recreation opportunities beyond the camping season.
