Trails End Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates from May 6 through October 21.

About

Trails End Campground occupies a remote location at the end of County Road 12 (Gunflint Trail) in Superior National Forest, adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The campground sits along the Seagull River and provides direct access to Seagull, Gull and Saganaga Lakes through four BWCAW entry points. The 32 campsites range from walk-in tent sites to pull-through sites capable of accommodating RVs up to 45 feet. Many sites offer water views or access, though some have steep drop-offs. The landscape tells the story of the 2007 Ham Lake Fire, which burned through in a mosaic pattern. Some areas were reduced to ash while others remained untouched, creating an exceptional opportunity to observe fire ecology and forest regeneration. White and red pine, aspen and birch trees provide shade in forested sections, while blueberries grow abundantly on the forest floor. Wildlife viewing is outstanding for bald eagles, osprey, loons and moose. Fishing is productive for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout. The nearby Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center offers trails and displays, and Blankenburg Landing provides a sandy swimming beach. BWCAW permits for day use and overnight trips are available at the campground when quotas allow.
