About
Sugar Pine Point Campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience on the north shore of Lower Bear River Reservoir in the Eldorado National Forest. The campground features nine rustic campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it ideal for campers seeking a less crowded alternative to reservation-based campgrounds. Located at approximately 6,000 feet elevation in Amador County, the campground sits within the Bear River Reservoir Area, which provides access to multiple seasonal campgrounds, hiking trails, and OHV routes. The reservoir is popular for boating, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The surrounding area features dense conifer forests and is adjacent to the western edge of the Mokelumne Wilderness. Due to its elevation and location in the Sierra Nevada, the campground operates seasonally when snow conditions permit. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply as no drinking water is available on-site. The campground provides vault toilets and is accessed via Bear River Road off Highway 88, followed by Forest Road 8N20.
Directions
From Highway 88, travel 2.5 miles south on Bear River Road, then 3 miles east on Forest Road 8N20. The campground is located 40 miles east of Jackson.
