About

Agate Campground is one of three family campgrounds at Sue-meg State Park (formerly Patrick's Point State Park), located 30 miles north of Eureka on California's rugged North Coast. The campground features 39 campsites set among dense Sitka spruce, redwoods, and thick coastal vegetation on a forested promontory above the Pacific Ocean. Several premium sites offer partial ocean views, while other sites are tucked into the foliage providing excellent privacy between neighbors. The campground sits adjacent to the trailhead down to Agate Beach, where visitors can hunt for agates, explore tidepools, and watch for marine wildlife including harbor seals, sea lions, and migrating gray whales. The park's one square mile contains a network of trails winding through coastal forest and along dramatic cliff-top viewpoints. Additional attractions include a reconstructed Yurok plank-house village called Sumêg, a native plant garden, visitor center, and summer interpretive programs. The area experiences frequent coastal fog year-round, with clearer conditions more common in spring and fall. Most of the park's 60 inches of annual rainfall occurs between October and April.
