About

Abalone Campground is the largest and most accessible campground at Sue-meg State Park (formerly Patrick's Point State Park), offering over 70 family campsites set among towering coastal redwoods and Sitka spruce. Located near the park entrance in Humboldt County, approximately 25 miles north of Eureka, the campground provides an ideal base for exploring the park's dramatic coastal headlands, tide pools, and forested trails. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and food storage cupboard to protect from wildlife. The campground accommodates both tents and RVs, with some sites suitable for trailers and motorhomes. Shared amenities include restrooms with coin-operated showers, drinking water faucets dispersed throughout the campground, and a dump station located near the campground entrance. The forested setting provides natural privacy between sites while maintaining proximity to the park's main attractions. From Abalone Campground, visitors have easy access to the Rim Trail system, which follows the coastal bluffs and connects to spectacular viewpoints like Wedding Rock and Ceremonial Rock. Agate Beach, known for semi-precious stones, and the reconstructed Sumêg Yurok Village are within walking distance. The area is excellent for wildlife viewing, with frequent sightings of Roosevelt elk, black-tailed deer, sea lions, harbor seals, and migrating gray whales during spring and winter months.
