About

Monarch Park Campground is nestled at the base of Monarch Ridge in the San Isabel National Forest, a short drive north of Monarch Pass on Highway 50. At 10,500 feet elevation, visitors should prepare for cool nighttime temperatures even in summer. The campground offers 35 sites, some positioned along the South Fork Arkansas River and others near a creek, providing a scenic mountain setting. Beaver ponds near the campground entrance make excellent fishing spots for families with young children, with brook trout being the most common catch. Popular nearby trails include Waterdog Lakes, the Monarch Crest Trail, and Hunt and Boss Lakes trails, where wildflowers bloom abundantly in late summer. The Colorado/Continental Divide Trail is also accessible from the area. The city of Salida is a short drive away, offering restaurants, shops, art galleries, and over 100 miles of Arkansas River for rafting, kayaking, and fishing. The region features fifteen 14,000-foot peaks and abundant recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
