About

North Fork Campground occupies one of the most scenic high-elevation settings in the San Isabel National Forest, perched at 11,000 feet along the north shore of North Fork Reservoir. The reservoir is a popular destination for anglers seeking rainbow trout in a remote alpine environment. No motorized watercraft are permitted on the water. This is a primitive, pack-it-out facility with vault toilets but no potable water or trash service. Sites include picnic tables and accommodate up to 8 people with 2 tents and 2 vehicles, or 1 RV per site. Dogs are allowed but must remain leashed at all times. Access is challenging. The road from Angel of Shavano Campground is extremely rocky and rough, requiring a high-clearance vehicle. Towing trailers is not recommended. The campground operates seasonally from approximately June through September, with opening dates dependent on road and snow conditions. All sites are first-come, first-served with payment via self-service fee tube.

Directions

From Salida, travel west 5 miles to Poncha Springs, then continue west on Highway 50 for 6 miles to County Road 240. Turn right on CR 240 and continue 3 miles to Angel of Shavano Campground.
