Sand Flat Campground is located six miles from the junction of Clark Fork Road and Highway 108, approximately 25 miles east of the Summit Ranger Station in Stanislaus National Forest. The campground offers 68 total sites, including 53 drive-in sites and 15 walk-in tent sites, all situated in a forested area near the North Fork Stanislaus River. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground features vault toilets, with some newer units that are fully accessible. Potable water is available from four hand-pump wells throughout the campground. An RV dump station is located at the entrance road to nearby Clark Fork Campground, available to Sand Flat campers for a fee. Additional vehicle fees apply for extra cars beyond one per campsite. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations, Sand Flat Campground provides a primitive camping experience in California's Central Sierra Nevada. The area offers access to the Stanislaus River and surrounding forest trails. Highway 4 access via Forest Road 7N02 makes this a convenient base camp for exploring the high country.

Directions

From Highway 4, turn south on Forest Road 7N02 past Big Meadow Campground. The campground is located about 6 miles from the junction of Clark Fork Road and Highway 108.
