About
Rocky Point Campground is located on the shores of Utica Reservoir in the Stanislaus National Forest, accessed via Highway 4 and a series of forest roads. The campground offers 12 first-come, first-served campsites positioned in a scenic granite basin surrounded by red fir and lodgepole pine forest. Each campsite is equipped with a bear box, fire ring, and picnic table with a designated parking spur. Utica Reservoir is managed exclusively for non-motorized boating, making it an ideal destination for kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding. The reservoir features numerous islands and is typically kept at capacity, with granite slabs along the shoreline extending into the water. Two hand-launch boat ramps are available for non-motorized watercraft. Fishing is popular in the reservoir's clear waters. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Payment is $30 per night, collected via self-service envelope system, and campers should be prepared to pay with cash or check. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide a 50% discount. Drinking water is available from a hand pump, and vault toilets are provided. The remote location and rustic setting make this an appealing destination for those seeking a quieter camping experience away from more developed facilities. Adjacent to Rocky Point is Sandy Flat Campground, offering additional camping options in the area.
