About

Red Cloud Campground is a small, primitive facility tucked into a Ponderosa pine forest within Cibola National Forest's Mountainair Ranger District. At 7,600 feet elevation, the campground offers cool mountain conditions and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding landscape, which includes remnants of an old mining district. The campground has just 5 sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Services may be reduced, including trash collection, so pack-out preparation is recommended. No hookups are available, making this strictly a primitive camping destination. Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations, Red Cloud sees increased use during fall hunting seasons but remains quiet during other times. The remote location and small size make it ideal for campers seeking solitude.
