About

Skyline Campground occupies a scenic high-elevation setting just south of the famous Monjeau Lookout tower along Forest Road 117 in the Sacramento Mountains. At over 9,000 feet, the campground delivers breathtaking views and cool mountain temperatures that draw visitors seeking solitude away from the busier developed campgrounds in the area. The 17 tent-only sites are primitive but well-suited for those accessing the White Mountain Wilderness. The Crest (T25) Trailhead departs directly from the campground, making this an ideal basecamp for day hikes or backpacking trips. Basic amenities include vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, though campers must bring all drinking water and pack out all trash. Access is via a gravel road that becomes steep and rough in the final two miles, particularly during wet weather. No trailers are permitted due to the road conditions and site configurations. The campground operates year-round on a first-come-first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit.

Directions

From Ruidoso, travel north on NM 48 for 4 miles. Turn west (left) onto NM 532 for 1 mile. Turn north (right) onto Forest Road 117 and continue 4 miles to the campground. The gravel road becomes steep and rough in the final 2 miles.
