About
The Portal CCC House is a historic fieldstone masonry cabin located approximately one mile west of Portal, Arizona, at the entrance to spectacular Cave Creek Canyon in Coronado National Forest. Originally built as the garage for the 1930s-era Cave Creek Civilian Conservation Corps Camp, the structure was later converted to housing. While the historic exterior has been preserved, the interior was remodeled to provide modern amenities. The cabin accommodates up to five people with two bedrooms: one with a twin-over-double bunk bed and one with a queen-sized futon. A full bathroom with shower, kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee pot are provided along with pots, pans, utensils, and dishes. The dining area features a wood burning stove with firewood supplied. Outside, guests have access to a propane grill and outdoor furniture. Cave Creek Canyon is world-renowned for its dramatic rock formations and diverse wildlife. Birding is exceptional year-round, particularly during summer months. Nearby attractions include Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historical Park, and historic Camp Rucker.
