About
Ponderosa Cove Group Campground sits at 4,400 feet elevation in Eldorado National Forest's Georgetown Ranger District, positioned east of Stumpy Meadows Dam on the north side of Wentworth Springs Road. This dedicated group facility accommodates up to 75 people with 10 walk-in tent pads arranged along a loop and 5 vehicle spurs with picnic tables for RVs or trailers, plus additional parking for up to 10 vehicles. The campground features vault toilets, potable water from two faucets (tested monthly during the season), a group fire ring, and a central grill area. A campground host is present during the operating season. Bears are active in the area, so proper food storage is essential. Firewood is available for purchase from the host; bringing outside firewood is discouraged to prevent pest introduction. Stumpy Meadows Reservoir offers swimming, fishing for brown and rainbow trout, and boating (no-wake only). Eldorado National Forest provides over 400 miles of hiking trails for day trips. The campground is reservation-only through Recreation.gov and fills quickly for summer weekends.
