Pomo Day Use Area
This is a day-use area only; overnight camping is not permitted. Operating hours are typically 8am-5pm off-season and 8am-8pm during summer. The Pomo Cultural Center remains closed to the public indefinitely.
About
Pomo Day Use Area sits on the shores of Lake Mendocino, a 1,822-acre reservoir formed by Coyote Dam on the Russian River. The recreation area is divided into three sections: Pomo A, B, and C, each offering family picnic sites equipped with tables and grills. A designated swim beach provides lake access, while a playground serves families with children. The area serves as a trailhead for the 3-mile Shakota Trail, which begins near the Pomo Cultural Center (currently closed indefinitely) and offers scenic views of the lake. A disc golf course near the Pomo A parking lot provides additional recreation opportunities, with rolling wooded terrain creating challenging play. Lake Mendocino lies in the scenic rolling hills of Coyote Valley, forested with groves of oak mixed with manzanita and pines. The lake supports fishing for sunfish, smallmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and perch. This is strictly a day-use facility; overnight parking and camping are not permitted.
Directions
From Highway 101, take Highway 20 East. Continue approximately 2 miles, then turn right onto Marina Dr. Continue past the North Boat Ramp and Kyen Campground until you reach the Pomo A, B, and C parking lots on your left.
