About
Mystic Lake Campground sits at 2,975 feet elevation in the Colville National Forest, providing dispersed camping above a scenic 16.8-acre mountain lake. The lake, measuring 22 feet at its deepest point, is regularly stocked with cutthroat trout fry by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, with eastern brook trout also present. The low nutrient water produces 8 to 9-inch yearlings and 11-inch carryovers, making for quality fishing opportunities. Two-pole fishing is allowed with a Washington state fishing license, and shoreline access is available around the entire perimeter of the lake. The campground consists of several small, undeveloped dispersed sites situated above the lake's south end. A concrete vault toilet serves the area, but no potable water is available. Access to the lake requires hiking down a fairly steep slope from the camping area. While kayaks or small boats can be used, motorized boats are prohibited, and the steep path makes boat access difficult. RVs and trailers are not suitable for this location due to terrain and access limitations. Mystic Lake's history connects to William Vane, a controversial figure from Newport, Idaho in the late 1800s who maintained a camp at the lake. The area offers a quiet, primitive camping experience for those seeking solitude and fishing opportunities. Nearby Browns Lake and South Skookum Lake provide additional camping options within a few miles.
