About
The Odd Fellows Cabins sit on the south shore of Paulina Lake in Newberry National Volcanic Monument, approximately 35 miles south of Bend, Oregon. Built by the Bend Chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows during the Great Depression between 1934 and 1938, these four cabins are constructed of native lava rock and pine timber in a style classified as depression-era folk architecture. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as the last surviving structures of the original IOOF organizational camp. The Deschutes National Forest, in partnership with HistoriCorps and the Deschutes Historical Society, has undertaken an extensive restoration project to preserve these historic structures. Restoration work has included replacing rotten logs at the foundations, repairing roofs and chimneys, stabilizing masonry, and installing new windows. The goal is to bring the cabins into compliance with standards required for recreation rentals while maintaining their historic characteristics. As of May 2026, the cabins remain closed to the public and are not available for rental reservations. They are not listed on Recreation.gov. Visitors interested in lodging at Paulina Lake may consider the nearby Paulina Lake Lodge, which offers cabin rentals during summer and winter seasons.
