Albeni Cove is a small, rustic campground located just upstream from Albeni Falls Dam on the Pend Oreille River in northern Idaho. Situated amongst towering firs, cedars, and pines, this scenic campground provides an intimate setting for camping and water-based recreation. The campground features 14 campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and grills, with most sites being standard non-electric and a few walk-to sites, plus one RV electric site. The campground offers direct access to the Pend Oreille River through an on-site dock, boat ramp, and swimming beach, making water sports the primary attraction. Lake Pend Oreille, located behind Albeni Falls Dam, is one of the largest and deepest natural lakes in the western United States, plunging to depths of more than 1,200 feet in some areas. The river stretches 65 miles through a glacial-carved valley that separates three mountain ranges, providing stunning natural scenery. Visitors enjoy fishing, boating, and swimming throughout the operating season. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with campers frequently spotting bald eagles, osprey, various bird species, and deer. The nearby Albeni Falls Visitor Center features exhibits on the dam's history and natural features of the area, with daily dam tours offered during summer. Note that access to the recreation area is over a rough gravel road, making it unsuitable for most RVs.

Directions

From Highway 2 in Newport, Washington, turn south onto Highway 41. Follow for 0.5 miles and turn east on Fourth Street into Oldtown, Idaho. Follow for approximately 3 miles to the campground. Note: Access is over a rough gravel road not recommended for RVs.
