Evening at the Cove.

Albeni Cove

Open

Open for the season. Reservations required through Recreation.gov. The swim beach and boat ramp may be temporarily closed when spillway gates are open in May, June, and early July.

About

Albeni Cove sits at the heart of a glacial-carved valley where the Pend Oreille River stretches 65 miles, separating three mountain ranges. This small Army Corps of Engineers campground offers a rustic but scenic location just upstream from Albeni Falls Dam, surrounded by firs, cedars, and pines. Lake Pend Oreille, one of the largest and deepest natural lakes in the western United States with depths exceeding 1,200 feet, lies nearby. The campground features 14 sites total: 10 standard nonelectric sites, 3 walk-to tent sites, and one RV electric site with 30-amp service. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings/grills. Facilities include flush toilets, potable drinking water, and coin-operated hot showers. A boat ramp, dock, and swimming beach provide direct river access for boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Wildlife viewing opportunities include bald eagles, osprey, and deer. The Albeni Falls Visitor Center nearby features exhibits on dam history and offers daily tours during summer. Note that access is via a rough gravel road, and the swim beach and boat ramp may close when spillway gates are open in May, June, and early July.

Directions

From Highway 2 in Newport, Washington, turn south onto Highway 41. Follow for 0.5 miles and turn east on Fourth Street into Oldtown, Idaho. Follow for approximately 3 miles to the campground. Access is over a rough gravel road.
