About
Martin Meadow Campground is a dispersed camping area in Eldorado National Forest, situated along the Highway 88 corridor approximately 53 miles east of Jackson. The site provides a primitive camping experience east of Silver Lake in the high Sierra. No reservations are taken; all camping is first-come, first-served. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided, and some established sites have fire rings. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. No picnic tables are provided. This is a free camping area with no fees, though a California campfire permit is required if you plan to have fires. The campground serves as a good backup option when developed campgrounds along Highway 88 are full. Rangers periodically patrol the area. High elevation means seasonal access, typically from late spring through fall depending on snowpack.
