About
Martin Meadow Campground is a primitive camping area situated along Highway 88 in the Eldorado National Forest, approximately 53 miles east of Jackson. Prior to its closure, this campground operated as a no-fee facility with vault toilets and no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own drinking water and be fully self-sufficient. The campground sustained damage during the Caldor Fire in August 2021, which burned over 220,000 acres in the Eldorado National Forest and surrounding areas. Martin Meadow has remained closed since the fire for necessary repairs and restoration work. The campground was confirmed closed through the 2022, 2023, and 2024 recreation seasons, with no announced reopening date. When operational, Martin Meadow provided a quiet, primitive camping experience in the Highway 88 corridor area, offering access to the forest's hiking trails and natural features. The elevation and location along Highway 88 typically meant a seasonal operating window, with winter snow closures common in this part of the Sierra Nevada.
