About
Lane Cove Campground sits in a remote cove on the north shore of Isle Royale National Park, accessible only by foot, canoe, or kayak. The campground is reached via the Lane Cove Trail, which connects to the Greenstone Ridge Trail. This backcountry site features 5 first-come, first-served tent sites equipped with food storage lockers to comply with the park's wildlife interaction guidelines. During peak season (June 1 through September 17), stays are limited to one night to accommodate the high demand on this isolated island wilderness. The campground provides seasonal composting toilets and non-potable water, but no other amenities. Campfires are prohibited; only self-contained stoves are permitted. The terrain is uneven and rough throughout, with no accessible facilities. A free overnight camping permit is required but there is no camping fee. Isle Royale is one of the most remote national parks in the country, and visitors must be prepared for unpredictable Lake Superior weather and limited services.
Directions
Lane Cove Campground is located in Lane Cove, on the northeast end of Isle Royale National Park along Lake Superior. Access is via the Lane Cove Trail, which connects to the Greenstone Ridge Trail. No boat access available. Accessible only by foot, canoe, or kayak.
