About

Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area lies directly below Kingsley Dam, fed by the cold, clear outflow from Lake McConaughy. This creates exceptional year-round fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, wipers, and channel catfish. The 320-acre lake offers protected waters ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and swimming, with a calmer experience than the larger Lake McConaughy. The recreation area has two distinct camping areas. The East Campground provides 82 electric-plus sites with 15/20/30/50-amp service and water access throughout. Hard-surfaced roads and pads accommodate RVs, and a modern restroom and shower facility serves this area. The West Campground offers 100 basic sites on grass and gravel, including tent-only options, spread across a more rustic setting near the lakeshore. A 2-mile hiking trail winds through the area, and amenities include a playground, fish cleaning station, and multiple boat ramps. The park requires a Nebraska Park Entry Permit ($30 residents, $45 non-residents annually) in addition to camping fees.
