About
Kiwanis Park is located just below Fort Peck Dam on the Missouri River in northeastern Montana, within the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. This day use facility offers a variety of recreation opportunities in a scenic setting covered by a shady grove of cottonwoods that turn golden yellow in autumn. The park features three fishing ponds including scenic Winter Harbor, providing access to Fort Peck Lake's renowned walleye, sauger, northern pike, and other game fish. Three miles of paved nature trails wind along the Missouri River and through the surrounding wooded area, making it a popular spot for birding and wildlife viewing.
The park includes multiple picnic shelters with electricity, a disc golf course called The Fortress installed in 2021, playground equipment, basketball and volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. The adjacent Fort Peck Interpretive Center and Museum offers displays of wildlife dioramas, aquariums, dinosaur fossils, and the construction history of Fort Peck Dam, the first dam built in the upper Missouri River Basin and the largest embankment dam in the United States. Fort Peck Lake's 1,500 miles of pristine shoreline and the surrounding 1.1 million acre Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge provide excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting, and wildlife observation.
