About

Holter Lake Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility situated on picturesque Holter Lake in west central Montana, approximately 45 miles north of Helena along the Missouri River. The campground offers stunning views of the Sleeping Giant Wilderness Study Area and provides excellent access to the lake's recreational opportunities. Every campsite enjoys lake and mountain views, with poplar and green ash trees providing shade during summer months. The campground features 52 sites including 9 tent-only sites, all set on spacious level gravel parking pads that accommodate RVs, camper trailers, and tents. Facilities include a large concrete boat launch with courtesy dock, overnight dock slips for campers, potable water throughout, garbage dumpsters, and double vault toilets with accessible options. The A loop and tent area sites include fire rings with grill grates. Two ADA-accessible sites (15 and 26) feature paved parking and specially designed amenities. Recreation opportunities abound, including motorized and non-motorized boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The nearby Gates of the Mountains Historic Site is accessible by watercraft, and the campground lies between Helena and Great Falls with their museums, restaurants, and attractions. The Lewis and Clark Trail follows the adjacent Missouri River corridor.
