Residents near the Horse Gulch burn scar and Riverside Campground should prepare for potential debris flow. Be sure to stay up to date with information from local authorities. About

Vigilante Campground sits at the end of Trout Creek Road, approximately 24 miles northeast of Helena in the Big Belt Mountains. This 7-acre primitive campground marks the starting point for the Hanging Valley National Recreation Trail, a 5.8-mile route that climbs to the Hanging Valley Overlook. The nearby Trout Creek Canyon Trail offers additional hiking opportunities through scenic terrain. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and drinking water available from a hand pump. Sites accommodate tents and small trailers up to 16 feet in length. The area experiences heavy usage during peak season. Cash or check payment is required for camping fees.

Directions

From Helena, follow Highway 280 east approximately 16 miles to the community of York. Proceed northeast along Trout Creek Road (Road #4) for another 8 miles to the end of the road and the campground.
