About

Located on the western shore of Hauser Lake reservoir along the Missouri River, Black Sandy State Park is a popular 43-acre recreation area situated 13 miles northeast of Helena. The park serves as one of the few public access points to Hauser Reservoir and is especially popular on weekends for water-based activities. The campground features 29 campsites with electrical hookups available from May 1 through November 30, plus one reservable tent site and five first-come, first-served tent sites. A boat launch provides access to excellent walleye and trout fishing, water skiing, and boating opportunities. Boat slips are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. The park includes a roped swimming area, though no lifeguard is on duty. Open year-round for camping and day use, the park offers limited facilities during winter months from December through April, when it becomes a destination for ice fishing and ice skating. The maximum trailer length is 35 feet, and the park sits at an elevation of 3,835 feet. Reservations can be made through Montana State Parks up to one day in advance.
