Crocker Pond
Open seasonally from mid-May to mid-October. All sites are first-come, first-served; no reservations accepted.
Special Weather Statement issued May 23 at 2:28AM EDT by NWS Gray ME
* Air temperatures in the lower 60s to lower 70s this weekend (50s on Sunday) may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 50s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and in the mid 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! * Generally light and variable winds shift to southerly today. Winds will be breezy this afternoon with some gusts up to 25 mph. If boating on large bodies of water, these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturning your boat, canoe, or kayak due to increased wave heights.
About
Crocker Pond Campground is a small, secluded camping area located in the Androscoggin Ranger District of White Mountain National Forest. The seven campsites sit beneath towering white pines on the edge of Crocker Pond, offering a peaceful setting for those seeking solitude in the Maine woods. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and potable water. From here, campers can access the Albany Brook Trail, an easy one-mile path that follows the west shore of Crocker Pond with gentle undulations through the forest. Crocker Pond and several nearby ponds feature boat launches suitable for non-motorized watercraft, making this an excellent base for fishing and paddling. All sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations accepted. The campground is accessed via a half-mile dirt road off Flat Road, which itself is reached from Route 2 in West Bethel.
Directions
From Route 2 in West Bethel, ME, turn onto Flat Road (across from the Post Office). Continue straight for 5.8 miles, then turn right onto a 0.5-mile dirt road to reach the campground.
