About

Grasshopper Flat Campground sits at 5,886 feet on the east side of Lake Davis, a 4,000-acre reservoir created in 1967 for recreation and fish population management. The campground loops through hills covered in tall pines, giving most of the 69 campsites afternoon shade and views of the lake's blue water backed by mountain peaks. All sites have picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and paved parking pads accommodating up to two vehicles. Peak season amenities include a campground host, flush toilets, coin-operated showers, drinking water from hand pumps, and trash service. An RV dump station and boat ramp are located nearby. The area supports fishing, boating, swimming, mountain biking, hunting, and wildlife viewing. A trailhead for the 7-mile Lake Davis Trail is within half a mile. Strong winds can make the lake hazardous for small craft; waterskiing and jet skis are prohibited. The nearest town is Portola, California, home to one of the largest railroad museums in the western United States. A state game refuge borders the lake to the east and south.

Directions

From Portola, take County Road 126 north for 7 miles, then County Road 112 to the east side of Lake Davis. The campground is approximately 1 mile on the left.
