Special Weather Statement issued March 16 at 9:28PM CDT by NWS Bismarck ND

March 16th, 9:28 PM — 4:00 AM

An area of precipitation is forecast to develop across western and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. Most of the precipitation could fall as snow, with high chances for at least one inch of accumulation along and east of Highway 83. However, there could also be a period of light freezing rain after the snow ends, and far western parts of the state could just see light freezing rain. The western half of the state has medium chances for at least a glaze of ice accumulation through Tuesday morning, with lower chances to the east. The snow and freezing rain could make roads very slick for the Tuesday morning commute. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination, and check the latest road conditions before departing. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. Temperatures are expected to quickly warm above freezing from west to east from mid Tuesday morning through the afternoon.

About

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park Main Campground is located in North Dakota's oldest state park, established in 1907 along the confluence of the Missouri and Heart Rivers. The campground offers a variety of site types including electric/water hookup sites, water-only sites, and group camping options that accommodate multiple units. Modern amenities include flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. The scenic Mato-tope Trail loops through the campground along the rivers and historic railroad line. The park features approximately 19 miles of non-motorized trails open for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, with eight horse corrals available for equestrian campers. The trail system offers excellent views of the river bottoms and surrounding prairie landscape. Anglers can fish along the shorelines of both the Missouri and Heart Rivers. The campground provides convenient access to significant historical attractions including the reconstructed On-A-Slant Indian Village, Fort Abraham Lincoln's cavalry post buildings, and the Custer House. A visitor center museum displays Mandan artifacts and military history. The park also features a commissary store with a coffee shop, WiFi, and gift shop. Reservations can be made up to 95 days in advance through the state park system.
