About

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian camping area within one of North Dakota's premier state parks, located just south of Mandan. The camp features 4 primitive campsites paired with 8 corrals for horse containment. Equestrians can enjoy over 6 miles of designated trails along the dramatic bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, with scenic views of the surrounding prairie landscape. The horse camp provides vault toilets and seasonal water access. Horses must be tied to corral posts or trailers, not trees, and hobbles are prohibited. Campers are responsible for maintaining corrals and cleaning up hay and manure daily. Equestrian trails are separate from other park areas, and horses are not permitted in regular campgrounds, playgrounds, or picnic areas. The park also features significant historical attractions including reconstructed Mandan earthlodges, the Custer House, and Infantry Post blockhouses. Lt. Col. George Custer departed from Fort Abraham Lincoln on his final campaign in 1876. A horse pass is required in addition to the park entrance fee.

Directions

From Bismarck, head south across the Missouri River into Mandan. Continue south on Highway 1806 for approximately 7 miles. The park entrance is on the right. Address: 4480 Ft. Lincoln Road, Mandan, ND 58554.
