About
Choctaw Park occupies prime waterfront on the western end of Greers Ferry Lake, nestled in the Ozark Mountain foothills south of Clinton, Arkansas. The reservoir covers 30,000 acres and was created by the Corps of Engineers for flood control in an area where the town of Higden once stood. Today the submerged town attracts scuba divers, while the lake draws anglers chasing walleye and brown trout, with world-record catches on file from the area. The campground spreads across four loops (A, B, C, D) plus a group shelter area, totaling 106 sites. Eighty-five sites offer electric hookups with 20/30 or 50 amp service; some 50-amp sites also include water hookups at the pedestal. Non-electric sites are available for tent campers seeking a more primitive experience. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Campground amenities include flush restrooms with hot showers, potable water at central spigots, a dump station, boat launch, designated swimming beach, playground, and group picnic shelter. Furgerson's Choctaw Marina operates on-site, offering boat rentals, fuel, and supplies. The area provides excellent fishing for walleye, bass, bream, and catfish, plus water skiing, swimming, and scuba diving. In spring the surrounding hillsides bloom with redbud and dogwood. The William Carl Garner Visitor Center near the dam showcases exhibits including a replica of the 40 lb. 4 oz. world-record brown trout caught downstream.
