About

Court Sheriff Campground is located at the very north end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, 30 miles east of Helena, Montana, along Montana Highway 284. Named for Court Sheriff, an 1865 Illinois transplant who worked the local mines before establishing a general store, livery stable, and hotel in Canyon Ferry by 1883. The campground features 48 paved campsites, with most sites positioned directly along the waterfront. Canyon Ferry Reservoir spans 33,500 surface acres with 96 miles of shoreline, offering excellent fishing for rainbow trout, perch, ling, and walleye. Water activities include motor boating, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, windsurfing, water skiing, and swimming. Winter brings ice fishing, ice boating, and ice skating. The campground sits between the Big Belt Mountains to the east and the Elkhorn Mountains to the west. Helena, the state capital, is 30 miles west. The location is roughly equidistant between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.
