Cave Point Group Use Area is a day-use group shelter situated at the very north end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir between the Big Belt and Elkhorn Mountain ranges. Located 30 miles east of Helena, Montana along Highway 284, this facility is managed by the Bureau of Reclamation and is reservable through Recreation.gov. The shelter is a modest 30' x 36' structure equipped with six picnic tables and an accessible vault toilet, capable of accommodating groups of up to 50 people. No electrical service is available at this location. The facility is strictly day-use only and closes at 10:00 p.m.; no overnight camping or use is allowed. Cave Point is named for Cavetown, one of the first mining settlements in the area. Visitors can access year-round recreational opportunities at Canyon Ferry Reservoir including fishing for rainbow trout, perch, ling, and walleye, as well as boating, kayaking, and other water activities.

Directions

From Townsend, MT heading north on MT Highway 12/287, turn right onto Spokane Creek Rd. Follow Spokane Creek Rd for 4.6 miles and turn right onto Co Rd 430/Canyon Ferry Rd, continue 16 miles to Kim's Marina. Turn right into Kim's Marina and continue straight to Cave Point. From Helena, MT heading east along Co Rd 430/Canyon Ferry Rd, continue for 16 miles to Kim's Marina, turn right into Kim's Marina and continue straight to Cave Point.
