About

Big Flat Campground is a small, quiet campground bordered by Hurdygurdy Creek in the Smith River National Recreation Area within Six Rivers National Forest. Located far from towns and highways, it offers a genuine remote camping experience. The campground is semi-open with some sites shaded by trees and others partially exposed, with shrubs and grass filling the spaces between sites. The campground provides vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and trash service. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on site. No hookups, showers, or dump stations are available. Maximum trailer length is 32 feet. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations accepted. Several South Fork Smith River access points are within half a mile of the campground. Hurdygurdy Creek can be accessed directly from the campground or at several points along the All Access Trail, which leads north two miles to Fox Flat and accommodates wheelchairs, bicycles, horses, and foot traffic.

Directions
