About
Jedediah Smith Campground occupies one of the most scenic settings in California's redwood country, nestled within a magnificent old-growth coast redwood grove on the banks of the Smith River. The Smith River is California's last major undammed river system and a designated Wild and Scenic River, offering excellent swimming holes and fishing opportunities. The campground provides 86 reservable sites suitable for tents, trailers up to 21 feet, and RVs up to 25 feet. Four cabins with electricity are also available. Facilities include year-round flush toilets and coin-operated showers, potable water, a dump station, and food storage lockers. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. During summer months, rangers lead evening programs at the campfire amphitheater. Several trails depart from or near the campground, including the accessible Simpson Reed Trail loop through old-growth redwoods and the Stout Memorial Grove Trail. The park is located just off Highway 199, approximately one mile west of Hiouchi and nine miles east of Crescent City.
