Jedediah Smith Campground

Open — Open year-round. Operates first-come, first-served from November through April. Reservations available May through October via Reserve California.

About

Located in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park within the Redwood National and State Parks complex, this campground offers a premier camping experience among towering old-growth coast redwoods. Situated on the banks of the Smith River, California's last major free-flowing river, the campground provides 86 sites that accommodate both tent campers and RVs up to 25 feet. The park is part of a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve protecting 45 percent of California's remaining old-growth redwoods. Campers enjoy year-round access to exceptional facilities including flush toilets, coin-operated showers, potable water, food storage lockers, and a dump station. The campground also features seasonal amenities such as firewood sales, an amphitheater for ranger programs, and on-site hosts. Four ADA-accessible rental cabins are available for those seeking an alternative to tent camping. Recreational opportunities abound with hiking trails winding through the lush redwood forest, swimming and fishing in the Smith River, and seasonal interpretive programs. The campground is located just off Highway 199, one mile west of Hiouchi, approximately six to seven hours north of San Francisco. While the campground operates year-round, it switches to first-come, first-served from November through April, with reservations available May through October through Reserve California.
