Entire Forest Under Food Storage Order

The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest has a food storage order in effect across the entire Forest. This order requires visitors to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest (MBSNF) to store food items in a “bear resistant manner” and to properly dispose of wildlife attractants.

About

Bedal Campground is located along the Mountain Loop Highway in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, offering a primitive camping experience in a stunning old-growth forest setting. Situated on the banks of the Sauk River, every campsite is within earshot of the rushing water, creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors seeking a quiet retreat. The campground features 21 campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, and fire ring. A unique feature is the large 18-foot by 18-foot adirondack shelter constructed from old-growth timber. Vault toilets and garbage service are provided, but no potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supplies. The final 7.5 miles of access road are graveled single-lane, and large RVs and trailers are not recommended due to the maximum 32-foot vehicle length limit. Recreational opportunities abound in the surrounding area. Within five miles, visitors can hike to the spectacular North Fork Sauk Falls, a 45-foot waterfall cascading into a deep pool. The popular Sauk Mountain Trail offers high mountain meadows with wildflowers and panoramic vistas of Mt. Rainier, Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and the Cascade peaks. The Sauk River provides excellent fishing opportunities, and white water rafting is accessible nearby. The forest's 1,500 miles of trails accommodate every skill level, from gentle forest paths to challenging mountain ascents.

Directions

From Darrington, travel 16 miles southeast on the Mountain Loop Scenic Byway. The campground is located on the west side of the road at mile post 37, just beyond the junction of Mt. Loop and Forest Road 49. The final 7.5 miles are graveled single-lane road. Access via Darrington is recommended as the Barlow Pass section may be gated.
