Special Weather Statement issued March 16 at 9:28PM CDT by NWS Bismarck ND

March 16th, 9:28 PM — 4:00 AM

An area of precipitation is forecast to develop across western and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. Most of the precipitation could fall as snow, with high chances for at least one inch of accumulation along and east of Highway 83. However, there could also be a period of light freezing rain after the snow ends, and far western parts of the state could just see light freezing rain. The western half of the state has medium chances for at least a glaze of ice accumulation through Tuesday morning, with lower chances to the east. The snow and freezing rain could make roads very slick for the Tuesday morning commute. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination, and check the latest road conditions before departing. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. Temperatures are expected to quickly warm above freezing from west to east from mid Tuesday morning through the afternoon.

About

Beaver Lake State Park Campground provides a peaceful retreat in south central North Dakota, located 17 miles southeast of Napoleon on the west shore of 968-acre Beaver Lake. The park's campground was originally a half-mile horse racing track, adding unique character to its history. Established in 1932 by early settlers from Logan, McIntosh, and Emmons counties, the park features a historic stone cairn commemorating its founders. The campground offers modern sites with electricity and water hookups, multi-unit sites, and primitive camping areas. Modern facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Three seasonal camping cabins with air conditioning, heat, refrigerators, and microwaves sit along the lake's edge near the primitive campground loop. The park's 5.14-mile trail system includes the self-guided Beaver Lake Nature Trail, Old Settlers Trail with historic overlooks, and the Moraine Loop Trail showcasing glacially-carved landscape. Visitors enjoy swimming at the beach, boating, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife viewing in habitats supporting deer, beaver, and diverse bird species. Two picnic shelters with electricity are available. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through Labor Day, while the park remains open year-round for day use and winter activities like ice fishing.
